An Overview of Validation

Resources

Evidence Types Guidebook - This guidebook provides definitions for the evidence types aligned to each of the five sources (test content, response process, internal structure, relations to other variables, and consequences of testing) of validity evidence and reliability from the Standards for Educational & Psychological Testing, published in 2014 by the American Educational Research Association, American Psychological Association, and National Council on Measurement in Education. These definitions were used to classify validity evidence for instruments in the repository.
Evidence Types List by Source - A quick table showing the evidence types organized by the sources of validity evidence (test content, response process, internal structure, relations to other variables, consequences of testing, and reliability). This list was initially generated by 40 researchers (including graduate students) at the VM2ED conference, held in Las Vegas, NV on February 20-21, 2020. Conference participants included individuals with expertise in mathematics education, psychometrics, and applied measurement (e.g., special education or educational psychology researchers), as well as individuals with interests related to measure validity (e.g., policy).
Validity Overview for VM2ED - A white paper to describe how validity has been conceptualized for the VM2ED project.
Citations for Named Measures with No Validity Evidence Found - This spreadsheet contains citations to instruments with no found validity evidence and to which a formal name was given in the literature. With no found validity evidence the repository contains no citation for where these instruments were identified. The citations to where users can find references to those instruments are in this spreadsheet.
Construct Bins - Each team working on the database identified the main construct for an instrument. To make the filter features on the search engine more useful to users, these constructs were grouped into larger sets. This document contains every construct, grouped by the following larger bins: affect, behavior, classroom and instruction, and knowledge. It may be helpful for a user interested in a specific construct to use this document as a resource.
